Before 26 January 2022
The fees payable to the Probate Registry, to obtain a Grant of Probate (or Letters of Administration) were set at:
- £155.00 if you make the application through a Solicitor or
- £215.00 if you make the application yourself.
New probate fee rate
The new proposal is to make the fee payable equal. This means whether you use a Solicitor or file the application yourself, the fee will be £273.00.
This only applies to Estates worth over £5,000.00.
Any applications received by 26 January 2022 will incur the lower fee. Any applications sent before this date, but not delivered until after this date, can also attract the lower fee at the Probate Registry’s discretion.
If you are seeking a Grant of Probate then in order to take advantage of the lower fee then applications will need to be made before 26 January 2022.
