Apply online for child contact proceedings

6th March 2020

HM Courts and Tribunals Service (HMCTS) have announced a new online service for parents and legal professionals to apply to the Court digitally to make orders under section 8 of the Children Act 1989.

The online service encompasses the initial contact forms (the rest of the process is not currently digitised), domestic abuse allegation forms and also includes the ability to keep contact details confidential. Previously, applications were made solely on paper, which led to delays.

Following a pilot, the new online service aims to simplify the application process and also directs parents to alternatives other than applying to Court, helping people find more alternative ways to make arrangements to see their children.

This announcement by HMCTS forms part of the overall reforms to the family justice system focusing on digitalisation and is welcomed by Burtons as part of speeding up the system.
